Description

From the Merriam-Webster online dictionary:The Definition of kinesiology is:“the study of the principles of mechanics and anatomy in relation to human movement”And this is what a Kinesiologists do:"Kinesiologists study the acquisition of motor skills, the mechanical aspects of movement, and the body's responses to physical activity. A kinesiologist may work in a public-school fitness program, design exercise programs for people with and without disabilities, or work with patients recovering from disease, accidents, and surgery. As a field of research, kinesiology focuses particularly on the mechanics of muscular activity."   The first known use of the word kinesiology was in 1894. In 1964, Dr. Goodheart made the first correlation between finding a weak muscle using manual muscle testing and then employing chiropractic therapy to make it stronger. Thus he became the inventor of Muscle Response Testing (MRT) and named the technique Applied Kinesiology (AK). As you can see from the above definitions, Muscle Response Testing (MRT) is a quite different subject and, for this reason, we refer to muscle response test as “Applied Kinesiology (AK)” or “Specialized / Energetic Kinesiology (SK / EK)” and try not to use the term Kinesiology alone.   The use of the word Kinesiology in the Muscle Response Testing (MRT) world is causing several problems. The ones that affects mainly our field are: - Some countries are forbidding the use of this term to describe Muscle Response Testing (MRT) so that Schools, Associations, Professionals, Websites need to change their name: this is bringing even more fragmentation and isolation on an already scattered “family”; - Clients cannot identify Muscle Response Testers as belonging to the same family and tend to refer to other disciplines if they need to find a new professional.
