A Reflex is an automatic and often inborn response to a stimulus that typically involves a nerve impulse from a receptor to an effector (such as a muscle or gland) without reaching the level of consciousness and often without passing to the brain.
While people usually think of reflexes as a muscular response (like a leg kicking out when a doctor taps over the knee), we also have Primitive Reflexes which integrate specific behaviors needed for survival, growth and learning; Postural Reflexes which coordinate movement and keep us in alignment; and others that can be used as corrective techniques to strengthen specific muscles, organs and meridians.
In Kinesiology, we use many different types of reflexes as corrective techniques:
- Neuro-Lymphatic Reflex (NL) (NL) Reflexes (see the techniques Neuro-Lymphatic reflex (NL) – Muscle Correction and General Neuro-lymphatic Massage). See all the reflexes in the Neurolymphatic Reflexes group.
- Neuro-Vascular Reflex (NV) (NV) Reflexes (see the techniques Muscle Correction with Neuro-Vascular reflex (NV) and Neuro-Vascular Cycle). See all Neurovascular reflexes in the Neurovascular Reflexes group.
- Spinal Reflexes.
- Cranial Reflexes.
- Hand Reflexes.
